Our first stop was at Eastern Acoustic Works in Whitinsville. Eastern Acoustic Works designs, builds, and delivers sounds systems from small speakers for the home to large scale systems for public arenas. Our guide Matt showed us around the factory and introduced us to EAW’s Anya line. Anya speakers are used in major sports and concert venues and are currently on tour with Tom Petty. The speakers hang in columns and can be programmed and controlled from a wireless device to adapt sound for particular venues.
Our next stop was at Atlas Box and Crating Company in
Sutton. Atlas manufactures all different
types of packaging solutions like wood, foam, and corrugated. They create custom products for their
customers with a focus on sustainability.
Our tourguides showed us each area of the factory including a separate
part that houses Atlas Pulp Molded Products.
Students were able to see the job opportunities that range from new
factory workers in their orange vests to the foreman and supervisors in the
control room.
The final stop was at Saint-Gobain Corporation in
Northbridge. Saint-Gobain manufactures a
variety of materials including abrasives, ceramics, glass, and crystals. After a delicious lunch with Saint-Gobain
employees and a presentation about the company, students took tours of the
facility. The guides showed students how
products are designed, created, and tested for strength and stability.
Manufacturing Day was certainly a success for the Nipmuc
students who participated. Check out the
video below to see more about our day!
