The purpose of the Computer
Systems Engineering Technology (CSET) Program is to introduce students
to a broad range of career opportunities in Information Technology (IT)
including Hardware Repair Technician, Help Desk Specialist, Network
Administrator, CyberSecurity Professional, and Systems Administrator.
These careers are currently in high demand fields that pay high
salaries.
This Introduction to Computer
Systems Engineering course is taught in a lecture and hands-on manner
to replicate actual tasks experienced in the workplace. Throughout the
course, students will:
- Explore IT career fields that are currently in
high demand
- Build their own desktop computer from
individual components for each student to take home at the end of
the course
- Explore various operating systems common on
client computers
- Configure their Windows 8 operating system to
become proficient as a Windows 8 Systems Administrator
- Utilize an office suite to become proficient
with technical documentation
- Learn basic home networking concepts, including
routing and wireless
- Design a basic home network infrastructure that
includes sharing and printing
- Earn 4 credit hours for the CSC 141 Windows
